Moderator Mat Posted May 27, 2022 Moderator Share Posted May 27, 2022 Game info AS Saint-Etienne x AJ Auxerre On an equal footing, St. Etienne and Auxerre return to the field this Sunday, May 29, to define the last member of the elite division of the French Championship in his 2022/2023 season. They play at the Geoffroy Guichard stadium in Saint-Étienne, the return game of the relegation playoffs of the 2021/2022 version of Ligue 1. The kick-off is scheduled at 17:00 UTC AS Saint-Etienne Alviverde spent practically the entire 2021/2022 season looking for the relegation zone as a natural habitat. In a few rounds he ended up outside the Z3, however, he returned quickly. In the final round, he narrowly escaped being sent directly to Ligue 2. The dispute started in the direct relegation area, however, he managed to escape thanks to the 1-1 draw. 1, away from home, with Nantes, winner of the French Cup. The result interrupted a streak of four defeats and took him to 32 points (seven wins, 11 draws and 20 losses). Just one more than Metz and Bordeaux, who stopped at 31, were sent to the Second Division. In the final round of the regular season, Metz was thrashed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes, and Bordeaux, also away from home, scored 4-2 at Brest. As principal, St. Etienne maintained the same scoring pattern in Ligue 1. He was third from last in the ranking of the hosts of the tournament. Of the 57 points he played as column one, he won 18 (four wins, six draws and nine defeats). He rocked the opposing nets on 24 occasions and had his defense leaked on 38 occasions. In the last five rounds, they have suffered three defeats, drawn once and won only once. AJ Auxerre While certainly the tie in the first leg of the repechage playoffs for a place in Ligue 1 2022/2023 was certainly not the result Auxerre expected, it turned out to be acceptable under the circumstances. The club had its defense leaked in the 15th minute of the first half through Youssouf and only managed to avoid defeat in the 41st minute of the second half as a goal signaled by Perrin. It showed, however, slight superiority in comparison with St. Etienne throughout the match. He had possession of the ball for 60% of the time, during which time he developed the greatest number of opportunities for finishing (12 to 10) and also maintained the lead in the rate of shots on target (5 to 3). Nothing, however, that would justify a different result. The team was in the third position of Ligue 2. It accumulated 74 points (22 wins, nine draws and seven defeats). Five less than Toulouse, champions, and one less than Ajaccio, vice-president, who achieved direct access to Ligue 1. In order to be entitled to play the repechage match, they needed to overcome Sochaux in the second division playoffs. The match was 0-0. They got the best in the penalty shootout.
